As with any great wine, the food must compare, and there are two restaurants here that serve Tuscan cuisine. La Taverna is open for lunch beneath the vaulted arches of the former barrel cellars of the castle, and beef entrecote in Bernaise and almond crust with Brunello di Montalcino jus is just one of the delights that may be on your menu. Meanwhile, the Sala dei Grappoli restaurant, open for dinner, is more formal and serves some very noble tasting menus.
There are just fourteen guest rooms, ensuring that the atmosphere remains intimate and all are housed in stone buildings around the castle. Each features breathtaking views of the countryside, and charming details include wooden ceiling beams, terracotta tiled floors, brick arches and selected complimentary estate wines.
Around the resort, there’s the Reading Room for quiet moments spent with a good book (or wine, what else?) or playing chess, whilst outdoors you can take an enchanting stroll through the formal gardens. Alternatively, you could find some shade beneath the pergola, or soak up some rays in the sun-drenched courtyard. If you get too hot, take a dip in the outdoor pool, whilst excesses can be worked off in the small gym. In-room massages can be arranged as well.
If you’re in the mood for exploration, take a bike ride around the estate, a day trip to the small city of Montalcino (16km away), or head to Siena (70km away) for sightseeing.
