Carlisle Bay
St. Mary's, Antigua and Barbuda
About the hotel
"Marvellously luxurious and deliciously secluded, Carlisle Bay is a sleek and contemporary paradise nestled into the gorgeous landscape with four restaurants, nine tennis courts and a lovely spa."
Inside, the resort forgoes the traditional Caribbean aesthetic in favour of a sleek contemporary look. From the lobby to each of the 87 suites, the tone is one of understated elegance. Rooms are stylish and crisp with dark wooden furnishings contrasting against walls of white and light grey. The muted colour scheme is brightened here and there by the occasional lively accent and by the tropical views as seen through floor-to-ceiling windows. All accommodations have espresso machines, terraces outfitted with daybeds (leisure is the name of the game here) and – most importantly – sea vistas.

All accommodations have espresso machines, terraces outfitted with daybeds (leisure is the name of the game here) and – most importantly – sea vistas.
Among the resort’s four restaurants is East, where Thai, Indonesian and Japanese cuisines are served in a sultry, romantic dining room. For a more dressed-down option, the Italian Ottimo! has familiar favourites (think pizza and gelato), and Indigo on the Beach is beach-casual at its best – bare feet welcome. Bar-wise, the secluded Coconut Grove is the perfect spot for a cocktail at sunset, while three other bars lend some welcome variety. The one caveat is that dinner reservations are mandatory at all restaurants, so a little pre-planning is necessary. Also note that there are specific evening dining hours for families with young children, and The Jetty Grill (which serves Caribbean fusion a stone’s throw from the water) is adults-only.
Despite its hushed sophistication, the hotel is surprisingly family-friendly with a kids’ clubs, teens club and plenty of entertainment options for all ages. Thoughtful design in accommodations are also appreciated; family-style suites are on one other side of the property while couples stay on the other. Exercise enthusiasts also have plenty of options: a bright fitness centre is reasonably well-equipped and exercise classes are held on a lovely yoga pavilion. Try wakeboarding if you’d like a more challenging workout, or play a few rounds of tennis on one of the resort’s nine courts. When you’ve tired yourself out and it's time to relax, the small but excellent Blue Spa has a lovely menu of facials and body treatments inspired by the tropical paradise all around.
