Capella has a story to tell. The heritage wing is an elegant, restored 1880’s colonial building which served as the officers’ mess of the British Royal Artillery. Rooms and suites are connected to this main section (there are villas too) in a contemporary extension. Resembling an otherworldly space station with pods throughout the gardens which house the accommodation, this structure in another country and another setting might not work. But with the ultra-modern Singapore skyline as the backdrop, it works perfectly.
Entry-level Premier Rooms have lush garden views, but if you wish to wake up to shimmering views of the South China Sea, book one of 26 Premier Sea View rooms or a suite. Just remember that when it comes to views, this is not the French Riviera, so it won’t be super-yachts you see cruising by but, rather, passing tankers, ferries and passenger boats.
All rooms come with a balcony; those seeking seclusion and privacy should opt for one of the villas which have outdoor rain showers, private plunge pools and spacious verandas. Minibar contents, while nothing too exciting, are included in the room rate of all rooms, as is the use of your room’s Nespresso machine, five-piece pressing and WiFi for any number of devices.
Dining here is quite special, especially in the Cassia restaurant designed by André Fu which offers innovative Cantonese cuisine. There’s also The Knolls, which serves all meals as well as the Chef’s Table with limited seating. Bob’s Bar is the perfect place to unwind with a drink at sunset but, if you wish to venture out for dinner, there are several Michelin-starred venues at Resorts World Sentosa, and the hotel shuttle can take you there and back.
