Within, the spaces strike that perfect balance of old and new; expect tradition in the architecture and modernity as far as the luxe factor is concerned. Designer Jaya Ibrahim (of the firm Jaya International) is the talent behind the impeccably designed interiors; guests of the resort are immersed in spaces that are inspired by the communal living traditions of the 1930s and elevated by French furniture and European sophistication. The overall effect is unique, memorable and wonderfully inviting.
Three-Michelin starred chef Pierre Gagnaire brings his five decades of experience to Shanghai in Le Comptoir de Pierre Gagnaire. Given that this is the property’s solitary restaurant, we went in with high expectations – and Le Comptoir delivered. In line with the duality of the rest of the resort, the inspiration behind the restaurant's interior design is twofold: influenced in equal measures by the glamour of 1930s Shanghai and the chic elegance of a Parisian salon. The restaurant – Gagnaire’s first in mainland China – is a love letter to French cuisine: expect mouthwatering dishes like Tasmanian abalone, smoked blue lobster and Oscietra caviar. While Le Comptoir is the property's only traditional sit-down restaurant, there are two other options for a quick bite or drink on-site. In the lobby, you’ll find La Boulangerie – perfect for a pain au chocolat or handmade pastry whenever you feel so inclined – alongside Le Bar, which boasts a good selection of fine champagne and wines.
The award-winning Auriga Spa at Jian Ye Li is a destination unto itself. No expense was spared in the creation of this magnificent temple to wellness: both the design and the treatments themselves are a blend of beautiful simplicity and utter indulgence. In addition to the spa's seven treatment suites, you’ll also find flotation tanks, saunas, steam rooms and a salt room. Those looking to get in a workout can do so in the well-equipped gymnasium, the vitality pool or the movement studio.
