Set in the sunbathed south of Portugal, the Bela Vista Hotel & Spa is perched on Praia da Rocha cliff for dramatic views of the water below. This five-star beachfront hotel was originally built as a private home in the early 20th century and became the first hotel in the Algarve in 1934. The hotel has been recently renovated to offer modern comfort and luxury while maintaining the beautiful original stained-glass windows, oak staircase, painted wood ceilings and decorative tile work. It's worth noting that the hotel closes from November 1st to March 10th each year and otherwise is open to guests ages 12 and up. Conveniently located on a pedestrian street in the popular Praia de Rocha area, the hotel is surrounded by dozens of restaurants and is just an eight-minute walk from the ruins of the medieval Fortaleza de Santa Catarina.

The 38 guest rooms and suites are split between the original Palace building, where you’ll find touches of historic charm, and the newer Garden House and Blue House expansions, which offer a more contemporary feel. Guest rooms are individually decorated with beautiful beach-inspired decor, and many offer private balconies with sea views. For a one-of-a-kind room, request room 116 in the “Character Room” category, which is set in the Palace building’s turret and features an opulent bathroom decked out in mosaic tiles and original stained glass.

Visit the Michelin-starred Vista Restaurante for creative Portuguese and Mediterranean cuisine with a focus on fresh ingredients and sustainable local seafood. Breakfast is served on the beachfront terrace or in the Palace's main dining room, and you'll find a convenient poolside bar where you can sip superb cocktails while watching the sunset or grab a refreshing drink to sip while soaking up the sun.

The on-site Spa by L'Occitane offers a hammam, a small indoor pool, a few pieces of gym equipment and a sauna to relax in, as well as a full menu of treatments like an aromatherapy massage, a soothing almondy body scrub and a relaxing lavender bath.
