The excellent Augustine Restaurant offers a lighter take on traditional Czech cuisine, and The Refectory bar serves monastery-inspired cocktails beneath soaring ceilings and restored baroque frescoes. The hotel’s crown jewel, however, is the central garden. There, you can enjoy St. Thomas beer – brewed according to the monk's original recipe – while gazing at the remains of the medieval monastery. Though open to both hotel guests and the general public, the garden remains largely unknown; the Augustine sits within a heavily touristic area but feels like a hidden gem. For private events, guests can book the memorable St. Thomas Brewery Bar, which is set in a historical artificial grotto.
The hotel lacks a pool but has a well-equipped fitness center and a spa with a host of pampering services. The Malotranská metro station is a five-minute walk away, and many of the area’s attractions are within a twenty-minute walk. The Wallenstein garden is right next door (as is the owlery within), the iconic Prague Castle towers over the property, and a museum dedicated to Franz Kafka is quite close as well. A small population of Augustinian friars remain on the property to this day, and they offer tours of the grounds and of a dusty, magical library – take one to cement your stay as a trip back in time.
