Selecting a room shouldn’t be too hard, as they all face the water’s edge. Lower floors won’t have water views, however, so if you want an ocean view, select a higher floor. Rooms are large and come with walk-in closets, large bathrooms with rainfall showers, gorgeously comfy beds and a seating area with a coffee table. There are no Nespresso machines, but there’s a Starbucks in the lobby that opens early in the morning and stays open ‘till late at night.
Formal breakfast is served at Waves Beach Bar & Grill, as are all meals of the day, and while the food is good enough, what’s not are the scavenging birds that simply never let up, dive-bombing tables as they are vacated; jaded wait-staff impervious to the unpleasant scene. Head to the pool or beach, and order the fish tacos delivered to your lounger along with drinks of your choice. The food is delicious, and the service exceptional. Dinner at the classic Ruth’s Chris Steak House is as good as it sounds. Decor is dashing with pastel blue seat coverings and original light fixtures. The modern bar is very welcoming, too, for before or after-dinner drinks. There’s also a pop-up seafood restaurant on the beach, another superb choice, feet in the sand.
Recreation-wise, there’s a well-equipped gym, spa and sauna, kids’ pool and tennis courts. Beachside, there’s the option of renting a wide variety of motorised and non-motorised sporting equipment, including boats of all sizes, paddleboards, inner tubes and windsurfers.
There are two very well-stocked boutiques on the lobby level, as well as two jewellery stores and a large bar and lobby lounge, perfect for people-watching day or night. Delicious ice cream is on offer at Gelato & Co which stays open ‘till midnight, also serving açai super bowls for the more health-conscious.
