Set on the iconic Sunset Strip with the best of Los Angeles on its doorstep, Andaz West Hollywood is La-La Land at its finest. Historically a site of rock-and-roll mayhem, the hotel’s legendary spirit remains in its contemporised interiors; the result being a stylishly playful atmosphere with decidedly better-behaved guests. Throw in some killer Hollywood views and LA’s highest rooftop pool, and you have the perfect recipe for an unforgettable SoCal stay.

The hotel’s personality is on full display from the moment you step through the doors, from the enormous murals of famous (and perhaps infamous) guests to local artwork showcased in the guestrooms. Chilled-out rooms are surprisingly calm with their clean lines and colour schemes of mocha, teal and ivory and many have fantastic views of Sunset Boulevard or Hollywood Hills. If you’re seeking a bit more panache, you’ll find it in the Jonathan Adler-designed (ANDAZ) RED Suite with its bold patterns, captivating artwork and ultra-glamorous bathroom. The other suites are less fantastical but equally indulgent; we particularly like the ones that have their own separate sunrooms.

Riot House Restaurant is the hotel’s main eatery; the open-kitchen dining room is a sleek and sexy affair but laid-back enough to wear jeans to. The inspired Southern California cuisine takes a farm-to-table approach, and the menu changes with the seasons to ensure you’ll always be having something fresh and fabulous. A tantalising weekend brunch is served here as well, complete with (dangerously) bottomless mimosas. There’s also the grab-and-go style Riot House Market (which has good vegan and vegetarian options), as well as the sleek Riot House Bar which feels classy and elegant despite its role in the rock star debauchery of the 70s. The hotel has a penchant for complimentary offerings as well, and not just in-room: guests have a near-constant supply of coffee and treats throughout the day as well as a wine hour every evening beginning at 6:00PM. Best of all is the rooftop pool bar (did we mention it’s the city’s highest?) with its crafty cocktails, glittery social scene and the mesmerising views – undoubtedly some of the city’s very best.

The hotel’s fitness centre is well-equipped and open 24-hours; there’s unfortunately no spa, but you’ll have no trouble finding one elsewhere – this is Hollywood, after all.
