A fashionable hotel set in Historic Savannah, The Andaz is equal parts urban artsy and New South sophisticated. Set within walking distance of some of the region’s very best restaurants and shops, this hip hotel is a delightful escape for those travellers who prefer trendy over traditional.

Cross the threshold of the hotel and you’ll find an alluring mix of modernity and good old-fashioned Southern charm. 151 guestrooms are eclectic and stylish with dark wood furniture, funky armchairs, artsy accents and Old South touches here and there in the form of Venetian mirrors and studded headboards. Contemporary bathrooms come with loads of thoughtful extras, while rooms themselves are well-appointed with coffee makers and all the necessary mod cons. While the rooms are comfortably spacious, the balconies fall a bit short in the size department: while perfectly suitable for gazing, they’re far too small for lounging and feel cramped for more than one person.

For a little more luxury and a little more legroom, the apartment-style suites are divine. The Andaz Deluxe Suite and Andaz Deluxe Loft are particularly worthwhile, and each has its own hosting kitchen if you find yourself in the mood to entertain.

One of the hotel’s finest assets is 22 Square Restaurant: its trendy farm-to-table eatery. In the restaurant’s bright and airy dining room, contemporary Southern cuisine gets a refreshingly simple makeover, and the menu is always focused on both sustainable ingredients and locally grown produce. The tantalising menu highlights the flavours of Georgia with everything from classic shrimp and grits and buttermilk fried chicken to fried green tomatoes and pimento cheese deviled eggs (topped with candied bacon, no less). Equally chic is 22 Square Bar which is locally beloved for its craft cocktails. The bar’s skilled mixologists have mastered concoctions both classic and contemporary; these libations are made all the better by artisanal liquors, homemade syrups and more fabulous local ingredients.

Also splendid is the hotel's charming outdoor pool which is an intimate oasis surrounded by loungers, a cosy fire pit and illuminated private cabanas – all romantically lit by string lights overhead. A 24-hour fitness centre has all the basics, though you may want to get your exercise in on foot by way of a jog or a lazy stroll around the fabulous downtown area – it’s right outside the front door, after all.
