The Andaz Napa is a perfect choice for a stay when you’re headed to Napa. It’s a groovy and sleek venue, one where the art of wine production and, better yet, degustation is celebrated everywhere. Rooms are designed with contemporary clean lines and hardwood floors, and the dining outlets celebrate the smart-casual approach that the region is known for.

Located in the heart of Napa, you’ll be within walking distance of the city’s boutiques, restaurants, the Uptown Theatre and about 20 wine tasting rooms. To visit the region’s wineries, however, you’ll need a car (and reservations). You’ll recognise the hotel’s approach to doing things differently from the get-go: there’s no traditional check-in desk in the lobby; you’ll be checked-in remotely (and quickly) as you are greeted in the vast living area by a receptionist with an iPad.

But before you arrive, select your room type from the 141 that are housed here. All have desks, heavenly beds and marble bathrooms with rainfall showers. WiFi is included, and all accommodations have coffeemakers and minibars with soft drinks and snacks at no extra charge. Views vary, from nothing much to city and landscapes. Take it up a notch to a loft or suite, and you’ll get tubs for two, balconies, perhaps, glass fireplaces and separate seating areas. Well worth noting is the fact there are rooms with two king beds available, perfect for many who need more space, including families.

As you’d expect, wining and dining here is sure to be super-chic. Mornings begin here communally at the Andaz Farmers Table. Head straight for the Barista Bar, and then grab a seat at one of the wooden tables and savour a robust breakfast, California style, which always includes smoothies, fabulous fruits, succulent bacon and eggs, vegan choices and everything else you could wish for. Reconvene here on Friday evenings for a wine tasting introduction, an excellent way to learn a lot more about what you have been, or will be, imbibing while in Napa. In true Californian relaxed style, the Mercantile Social is a great place to have a relaxed cocktail – or more wine – at any time of the day alongside a salad, burger, fish and chips or sandwich. Take it out to the terrace (by the fire pit in colder climes) and plan the next day in town.

Make time for a spa treatment in your room in the evening, or head to the hotel gym; you’ll feel better for the workout, and you’ll be ready to do it all over again the next day.
