If you’re attracted to things of great beauty and history, Aman Venice is a fascinating place to stay while you’re in town. Most guests opt to arrive by private boat transfer, an enjoyable way to begin to feel the romance that envelopes every inch, every corner of Venice. When you arrive at the dock and step into the grand hall reception area, you’re sure to have a ‘wow’ moment. With soaring ceilings, historical frescos and museum-standard Rococo artwork, there is no mistaking you’re well and truly in Italy. From here, there’s access to the private waterfront garden – one of just a few in the city – where you can sit and enjoy views over the Grand Canal.

Everywhere you look inside the hotel is something beautiful, and amongst the opulence, there’s a freshness that offers a suitably modern twist. Venture up the sweeping staircase to the resplendent Arva restaurant on the palazzo’s piano nobile (grandest upper floor) that comprises several rooms including the gilded ballroom which is decorated with mirrors and original chandeliers. Reserve a table overlooking the Grand Canal – outdoors in warmer weather if you can – and tuck into some fantastic Italian cuisine. Afterwards, head to the cosy bar for a cocktail or an espresso to round off your meal.

Other rooms worth investigating include the stunning salon that features a grand piano, and the library – there’s always somewhere to catch a quiet moment. Meanwhile, the small roof terrace is a delightful place to watch the sunset.

When it comes to choosing a room, you’ll be hard-pressed to decide which one’s for you. Oozing sex-appeal and varying in size and configuration, they feature museum-quality works by a number of Italy’s greatest artists. Contemporary furnishings complement authentic silk wall coverings, chandeliers, wood panelling, chinoiserie, fireplaces and painted ceilings. Many suites offer Grand Canal views, with the Alcova suite and its frescos from 18-century Venetian painter Giovanni Battista Tiepolo being the best.
