Inspired by Japanese Ryokan inns, the guest rooms and suites feature a minimalist design, tatami flooring, Hinoki Japanese baths and floor-to-ceiling windows for abundant natural light and tranquil forest views. Upgrade to a Takagamine Suite for 165 square metres of space to luxuriate in, which includes a modern kitchen with a wine refrigerator and a Western-style dining area. The secluded two-bedroom Washigamine Pavilion faces east for incredible sunrise views over the zen garden and is the hotel's largest suite at 241 square metres.
Savour seasonal cuisine at the Living Pavilion, where tables are arranged around a central open fireplace, and locally sourced ingredients including free-range eggs and Kyoto Rice from Kobatake are the stars of the menu. At Taka-an, you can enjoy a traditional Japanese omakase experience where the chef draws on his, in this case, inner inspiration to create a custom meal for each guest. Request a private picnic to enjoy in the picturesque surroundings, or sit down to a traditional afternoon tea with both Japanese and Western treats and freshly prepared matcha.
During your stay, tap into your inner self and meditate with Zen Buddhist monks in the tranquil Japanese garden, learn the art of flower arrangement from an Ikebana expert, take outdoor painting classes and be serenaded with traditional music at the Sounds of the Shinobue event. Relax in the natural mineral hot springs, feel your tension melt away with a Shiatsu massage in the spa, or sign up for a mindfulness program that includes a hilltop meditation session and a two-hour hike. Wake up with a guided yoga practice in the forest, or unwind at the end of the day with a soothing candlelit yoga session.
