Three Top Destinations for Snow Holidays

ASMALLWORLD

As autumn comes to an end and the temperatures start to drop, that can only mean one thing: snow. Grab your coat and explore some of the top destinations for snowfall around the world.

Whitefish, Montana

Located in the Rocky Mountains, Montana, Whitefish offers direct access to the surrounding glaciers, lakes, and the peaks of nearby Whitefish Mountain Resort. This chocolate box town, with its alpine-style houses, quaint eateries and pine-covered streets, is a perfect spot for both outdoor adventures and a cosy weekend getaway. The area typically sees around 60 days of snowfall, between November and April, so you have plenty of booking time.

Lausanne, Switzerland

This scenic hillside city, situated on Lake Geneva, happens to be the first city of the Alps and as such is often used as a base for eager skiers during winter months. There are also lots of things to do and explore for a relaxing winter break, with historic architecture dating back to the 12th century and a rich culinary scene. The snowy period typically takes place across 2 months from December to January, so whether you’re seeking an active snowy adventure or would prefer to curl up with a hot beverage and scenic views, this is a great location for a snowy holiday.

Hokkaido, Japan

Japan might be known for its cherry blossoms, but the nation also offers some of the most picturesque winter resorts. Hokkaido, in the north of Japan’s primary islands, is renowned for its jagged mountain peaks and powder snow. Hokkaido is also home to geothermal springs, a steaming volcano, crater lakes and plenty of traditional Japanese wellness resorts. The region typically sees around 15 metres of snow per year between October and the end of December.

THE SNOW VILLAGE OF NISEKO IN HOKKAIDO, JAPAN

Pair your snowy adventure with a stay in an equally festive accommodation, such as the elegant Royal Savoy in Lausanne, which offers an onsite spa and two swimming pools (including one indoor), or Higashiyama Niseko Village, a five-star Ritz-Carlton hotel nestled amongst the mountains.
