The Most Scenic Train Ride: New York to Toronto

ASMALLWORLD

North America’s eastern states are primed for an autumn rail adventure, with train routes winding through foliage-lined fields, lakes, and crossings. Reserve a seat on the Maple Leaf Amtrak to admire the scenes for yourself, on this long but invigorating 12-hour cross-border adventure.

Starting in New York City’s Penn Street Station, the train whisks you through the Hudson River valley and rolling vineyards of upstate New York to the renowned Finger Lakes and Niagara Falls, where you can pause your journey to explore this magnificent World Heritage site.

The final leg of the journey brings you to pine-covered Canada, around Lake Ontario to Toronto. This is a perfect photo opportunity, since the train hardly leaves the water’s edge for the two-hour stretch between Niagara Falls and Toronto.

From the panoramic city views from the top of the Empire State Building to the bustling crowds and street performers at Times Square, there's an exhilarating energy to Manhattan that's unlike anywhere in the world.
