Explore Rome by Night

ASMALLWORLD

Rome is filled to the brim with ancient artefacts and tourists. If you want to escape the crowds, explore the city by night when the crowds have dispersed. Our editors have curated a list of the best evening activities across the city.

Catch the Sunset from Janiculum Hill

Start the evening off on a good note with sweeping views of Rome from Janiculum Hill. Here you will be able to admire the city’s top sights with ease – perhaps with a gelato in hand. Janiculum Hill is situated on the western side of the city, close to a number of metro and tram stops if you prefer to avoid the hike.

The Westin Excelsior

If you’re looking for a scenic stay in the heart of the city with a touch of ‘La Dolce Vita’, head to The Westin Excelsior. This luxurious hotel had a starring role in the renowned Fellini motion picture and, with its plush interiors and five-star service, it's not hard to see why. The hotel is just a 15-minute walk from the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and Borghese Gardens, making you perfectly placed to explore the city with ease.

Roman Forum to the Colosseum on Foot

Enjoy the tranquility of exploring Rome’s most renowned historical sites when the sun has gone down. Fortunately, most are within walking distance of each other, with the magnificent Ancient Roman ruins of The Colosseum and Roman Forum situated right next to each other. After a short stroll or passeggiata, as the locals say, you’ll reach the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon and Spanish Steps.

THE PANTHEON ICONIC ROME HOTEL

The Pantheon Iconic Rome Hotel lives up to its name, with spectacular views of The Pantheon and other Roman ruins. Relax after your adventures with a cocktail or two at the rooftop bar or admire the breathtaking interior design features of renowned Italian artist Marco Piva.

Have Your Own Roman Holiday at the Riverside Bars

While much has changed since the release of the iconic Hollywood film, ‘A Roman Holiday’, the riverside bars frequented by Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck are one of the few features that remain. They’re slightly modernised versions of the raucous 1950s dinner-dances but are in the same spot near Trastevere on both sides of the River Tiber. Enjoy some fresh pasta carbonara or cacio e pepe from one of the neighbouring restaurants before finishing with a nightcap at the water’s edge.
