Discover Copenhagen’s Pastry Hotspots

ASMALLWORLD

Copenhagen is renowned for its art and design, culture and, of course, its culinary scene. Cafés, bars, and breweries populate every corner of the city, whose name is derived from its riverside location and influences from neighbouring central-European hotspots.

Lille Bakery

This charming bakery’s ethos is to provide a comfortable space that brings people together. The atmosphere is informal with a bright, open-plan space, which is complimented by its delicious, seasonal baked goods. Here you’ll also be able to join in-house workshops and events, such as its regular bread-making classes. Lille is in Copenhagen’s up-and-coming hipster area, Refshaleøen, a former shipyard that is now home to a number of micro-breweries and trendy bars.

Leckerbaer

Part of a small chain of specialist cafés across Copenhagen, this unique brand offers expertly crafted cakes, tarts, pies and pastries that almost look too good to eat. Note the ‘almost’ – the mouthwatering flavour combinations are certainly worth a bite. The café is situated towards the north of the city, along Ruesgaede Street and beside Fælledparken.

Hart Bageri

Founded by renowned Insta-baker Richard Hart, these artisanal cafés are often frequented by food fanatics who come in equal parts to see the world-famous pastry laminations (folding butter into dough to you and me) and Mr Hart himself. You’ll find several Hart Bageris scattered across Copenhagen – there are ten in total – so wherever you’re headed, you’ll never be far from a delicious Danish.

Other local favourites include the award-winning Juno the Bakery, known for its traditional Kardemummabullars (cardamon buns); Copenhagen’s oldest bakery, Skt. Peders Bageri; and Københavns Bageri, whose modern takes on traditional Danish pastries are so revered that they even supply several other bakeries around the city.
