Bite-Sized Berlin: 5 Cultural Hotspots

ASMALLWORLD

There truly is something for everyone in Berlin. This sprawling city is the urban centre of Germany and it’s not hard to see why. From the Berlin Wall to Tempelhofer Feld, our editors have rounded up our favourite historical and cultural spots across this dynamic metropolis.

Wander Along the East Side Gallery

Here you’ll find murals and graffiti displayed along a 1.3 kilometre-stretch of the old Berlin Wall, which encircled West Berlin during the Soviet occupation post-World War II. Today, it’s a buzzing spot filled with street performers, artists, travellers and history buffs. The gallery is situated on the banks of the River Spree, just a short walk from Warschauer Straße and Schlesisches Tor metro stations.

Explore Kreuzberg

Home to a number of quirky bars, restaurants and shops, the stylish neighbourhood is Berlin at its finest. Kreuzberg is known to be one of the most creative districts in Berlin and is easily accessible from most areas of the city. Berlin Central Station is just a 15-minute metro ride away.

Walk from The Reichstag to Brandenburger Tor

Berlin might be lauded for its trendy neighbourhoods and vibrant arts scene, but the more traditional structures of the Brandenberg Gate and The Reichstag are equally fascinating. Both are positioned between Tiergarten Park, where you will find a number of sculptures and peace memorials. Within a short walk you can also reach the renowned Jewish memorial, a poetic structure by the architect Peter Eisenmann that pays homage to the lives lost during WWII and emotes the feeling of walking through a cornfield.

Sail Down the River Spree

When you need a break from running around the city, hop on one of the regular trips down the river. For a glimpse of Berlin from a different perspective, opt for a nighttime boat tour under the sparkling city lights.

Prepare for Lift-Off at Tempelhofer Feld

Round off your whirlwind city break with a visit to Tempelhofer Feld. This abandoned airfield has been repurposed as a public park, and the landing strip is now populated by skaters and cyclists whizzing across the tarmac. There’s plenty of eateries nearby, so you can enjoy a delicious picnic spread – perhaps with a Berliner Weisse.

This bustling city is teeming with history and creative innovation, not to mention the range of ASMALLWORLD hotels that offer the perfect relief after a day of sightseeing. From the swish Waldorf Astoria in the heart of the Financial District, to the elegant roof terrace of the Hotel de Rome, or a star-studded stay with a two-Michelin starred restaurant at the Hotel Adlon Kempinski, you can explore all this and more on the ASMALLWORLD Collection
