A Spotlight on Atlantis The Royal in Dubai

ASMALLWORLD

Situated on the palm tree-shaped island of Palm Jumeirah, Atlantis The Royal is a Tetris-shaped structure that combines five-star facilities with future-thinking and contemporary design. It is one of two Atlantis hotels on the island (the other being Atlantis The Palm), and both are uniquely different yet equally iconic. The island itself is a man-made construction and on the island's outer ring is Atlantis The Royal, which forms part of the commercial area along with several other luxury hotels and resorts on the “tree trunk”.

Redefining Luxury Hospitality

Before you walk through the doors of Atlantis The Royal, you’ll be wowed by the hotel's magnificent exterior. A collaborative project between Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, G.A Group, Sybille de Margerie and WET Design, the structure has been designed to reflect a deconstructed skyscraper, rethinking the city's approach to development and encouraging an immersive, indoor-outdoor experience.

The notion of water is a continual narrative throughout the property, with water-based details flowing throughout the indoor and outdoor spaces. Water represents a sense of grounding in nature’s roots, and the concept for this project was inspired by the Bedouins, the oldest inhabitants of the Arabian desert, who would roam the dunes using water wells to decipher their location.

Walk around the property and you’ll notice intricate details that tie into this concept: rippling glass water walls, sheets of water surrounding a sunken lobby lounge, illuminated water mists framing the hotel’s entrance and the vast jellyfish aquarium in the Horizon Bar area – reportedly the largest in the world. Immersive design is the core focus of this hotel, creating an inspiring space for guests to retreat to.

The facilities here are equally impressive, with 17 restaurants and bars (including the Michelin-starred Dinner by Heston Blumenthal and Nobu by the Beach), three swimming pools, two private beaches, and a state-of-the-art onsite spa. Guests can choose from 43 storeys of rooms, suites and penthouses with facilities ranging from access to entire private floors and infinity pools, to panoramic ocean views and luxurious walk-in wardrobes.
