The Best Jazz Bars in Paris

The Best Jazz Bars in Paris

Paris and jazz share an unbreakable bond. Whether you’re a devoted jazz aficionado or simply seeking a romantic night of soulful ambience, our editors suggest four must-visit spots.

La Bal Blomet

33 Rue Blomet, 75015 Paris

A historic club in Montparnasse, La Bal Blomet has been hosting live jazz and cabaret performances since the 1920s. This storied venue has been a favourite haunt for creatives with literary and artistic patrons such as Simone de Beauvoir, Henry Miller and Ernest Hemingway. Proudly holding the title of Europe’s oldest live jazz venue still in operation, La Bal Blomet puts music front and centre, even closing the bar during performances to ensure an uninterrupted experience.

Le Sunset/Sunside

60 Rue des Lombards, 75001 Paris

A list of the best jazz bars in Paris would not be complete without Le Sunset/Sunside. The venue holds the distinction of being the first jazz club established in the heart of the city, pioneering a movement which has seen the Rue des Lombards becoming a haven for jazz bars. Founded in 1983, the original venue consisted only of The Sunset, in the basement below a popular restaurant. Today The Sunside, on the upper floor of the old restaurant, is a temple for acoustic jazz. Meanwhile, in the basement, The Sunset, with its white vaulted ceilings, embraces contemporary jazz fusions. Book in advance or simply turn up at the door for a night of spontaneity – at this beloved venue anything goes.

JAZZ LOVERS DANCE THE NIGHT AWAY

Le Duc des Lombards

42 Rue des Lombards, 75001 Paris

Wander just a few doors down and find yourself at Le Duc des Lombards. Sleek and modern, this club is known for its electrifying late-night jam sessions, no two nights are the same and you’ll feel as though you’re witnessing something truly unique. With a dimly lit atmosphere and spotlights illuminating the small circular stage, this venue creates an up-close and intimate experience.

Le Caveau de la Huchette

5 Rue de la Huchette, 75005 Paris

Descend a flight of stone stairs into Le Caveau de la Huchette, a nostalgically retro jazz den that will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time. Nestled in the Latin Quarter of Paris, this underground club is a haven for those who love to dance. Join couples swirling across the dancefloor to the infectious energies of jazz and swing infusions.

Where to Stay

For a luxurious stay that complements your jazz-filled evenings, check into the Hôtel Du Louvre. As the name suggests, this landmark of Parisian elegance is just steps away from the Louvre. Originally constructed in 1855, it was the first luxury hotel in Paris and the largest in Europe at the time. Or, for an unforgettably romantic retreat, Hôtel de Crillon, commissioned by King Louis XV, offers an opulent stay. The location is hard to beat, with views of the Eiffel Tower and Tuileries Garden, plus the Champs-Élysées is just around the corner.
