Last-Minute Spring Holidays

Last-Minute Spring Holidays

Still planning your spring break? With the remnants of winter clinging on and spring not yet in full throttle, March can feel like a lull. Whether you prefer languid bronzing in the Costa Rican sun or chasing adventure on snowy peaks, our editors have curated the top spring break spots to thwart that post-winter inertia.

Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico

Often overlooked by its beachside counterparts Tulum and Cancun, Mérida is a rising colonial treasure for those with a penchant for the urban. With a burgeoning design and food scene, the city has seen a recent boom in boutique hotels and artisan eateries. The region’s rich Mayan history is integral to the city’s identity and a day trip to Chichén Itzá, one of seven wonders of the world, is a must.

For a unique stay, head to Chablé Yucatán, a 650-acre resort just outside Mérida, offering a private cenote, golf course and traditional cooking classes.

Whistler, Canada

For those who enjoy a dose of adrenaline with their holidays, Whistler’s slopes stay reliably snowy until April. The steep topography can also be experienced at a slower pace on scenic hikes like the Miller Creek Trail. During low season, highly sought-after restaurants such as Wild Blue are easier to book, with great deals that entice both locals and visitors.

The Fairmont Château and the Four Seasons are the resort's most luxurious lodgings, offering exceptional service and ski-in/out facilities.

Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Aptly dubbed as the Golden Coast, the Guanacaste province in northwestern Costa Rica is home to miles of sun splashed shoreline. As well as a surfer’s paradise, the Pacific littoral is a haven of ecotourism, with wildlife reserves, thermal spas and wellness retreats. Home to 500,000 species of fauna and an abundance of fresh fruit and sea air, it is no wonder Guanacaste is a Blue Zone, one of the five places globally where residents live longer, healthier lives.

Staying at Punta Islita, you’ll find a beachside haven, with hammocks on every terrace and a range of complimentary cultural activities.

Arizona, USA

The Miraval Arizona Resort and Spa is just outside of Tucson, a town seventy miles north of the Mexican border with an impressive 350 days of sunshine each year. Offering a plethora of activities focused around fitness, nature and spirituality, The Miraval is the perfect wellness resort for those who crave some revitalisation but prefer to stay closer to home. The Saguaro National Park is worth a visit: an expansive auburn landscape overrun with towering cacti and labyrinthine mountain bike routes for the more daring.
