ASMALLWORLD’s 2025 Travel Forecast

ASMALLWORLD’s 2025 Travel Forecast

As we step into 2025, the world of luxury travel continues to evolve rapidly. From serene escapes in rural destinations to eco-conscious retreats and global sports adventures, it is set to be a transformative year for tourism and travel. Travellers are seeking experiences that go beyond lavish resorts and first-class flights, instead seeking journeys that reflect their core values, passions and desires for the unique. Our editors have rounded up some of the key themes and topics that are set to take travel by storm in the new year.

The road less travelled

In 2024, travellers preferred to ditch the usual tourist spots and head to more tranquil, off-the-beaten-track destinations. We expect to see much more of these travel choices in the new year, with an influx of trips to less crowded destinations that foster peace and quiet. The more rural areas of destinations such as France, Mexico, Japan, Brazil, Norway and Canada are set to see an increase in travellers, as are emerging new destinations such as Guyana, Mongolia, the Faroe Islands and Greenland. With people craving peace and quiet more than ever, these hidden gems offer the perfect escape from crowds and a chance to reconnect with nature.

Affordable luxury

Affordable luxury offers the perfect mid-point for the global traveller. As we become more adventurous with our choice of destinations, there will undoubtedly be a rise in bookings for unique wellness retreats, slow river cruises and humble beachside escapes. Imagine gliding along the Nile or enjoying daily yoga classes in the Himalayas.

Sustainability

With the increasing threat of climate change, many travellers will understandably want their trips to be eco-friendly and ethically sound. From residing in solar-powered lodges and flying on carbon-neutral airlines to supporting local communities and fighting against overtourism, sustainability will take centre stage in 2025. And not before time. It’s not just about seeing the world – it’s about leaving it in a better state than how you found it.

Solo travel

It’s never been easier or more exciting to explore the world on your own. Luxury travel clubs are crafting custom trips just for solo adventurers, with everything from private guides to handpicked experiences for all ages. Whether it’s wandering through Kyoto’s temples, gazing at waterfalls in Iceland or getting lost amongst Rome’s cobblestone streets, solo travel is about to see a boom in 2025.

SOLO TRAVELLING

Sports travel

From the Australian Grand Prix in March to the Women's Rugby World Cup in London over the summer, sports events will continue to drive travel in 2025. It’s not just about the game – travellers are seeking VIP packages with perks such as exclusive parties and behind-the-scenes access. We predict a rise in sports-related travel bookings in the New Year, with several exciting events on the horizon. Anyone for the French Open or the Golf Masters in Augusta?
