Art Basel Miami: What Not to Miss

Art Basel Miami: What Not to Miss

Art Basel Miami Beach 2024, under the leadership of Bridget Finn, is set to be an extraordinary showcase of global art from 6 to 8 December, with VIP previews on 4 and 5 December.

This year’s edition will feature 286 galleries from 38 countries, marking the largest influx of new exhibitors in over a decade. The fair will highlight diverse artistic voices, with nearly two-thirds of exhibitors hailing from the Americas, including newcomers from Brazil, Colombia, Peru and Argentina.

"We have an exceptional roster of galleries participating,” Director Bridget Finn says. “It was incredibly important that we carve out a more equitable path to participation for small and mid-sized galleries entering the main sector.” This year's edition features a revitalised programme with new curators and exhibition concepts designed to provide an unmissable experience for art professionals and enthusiasts alike.

The fair will be structured across several sectors: Galleries, Kabinett, Nova, Positions, Survey, and Meridians. Meridians will be curated by Yasmil Raymond for the first time, featuring 18 large-scale projects by renowned artists such as Alice Aycock and Rachel Feinstein. This sector aims to explore themes such as democracy and climate change through monumental artworks. Kabinett will offer thematic presentations within gallery booths, while Nova will spotlight younger galleries exhibiting works created within the last three years. Positions will focus on solo showcases by emerging artists, and Survey will feature historically significant works created before 2000. In addition to the exhibitions and sectors, Art Basel Miami Beach will host its renowned Conversations programme, curated this year by Kimberly Bradley. The series will kick off with a Premiere Artist Talk featuring Hank Willis Thomas, providing a platform for engaging discussions on contemporary art.

Beyond the fair itself, Miami will see fantastic events and exhibitions across the region. Highlights include Rachel Feinstein's mid-career survey at The Bass Museum and José Parlá's new works at Pérez Art Museum Miami.

As Finn states, “This edition has been designed with you in mind,” says Finn, “to maximise at every turn the opportunity for surprise encounters and revelatory discoveries.”
